ANOTHER WORLD: ON THE STUDENT-LED MOVEMENT IN SERBIA, THE ANTI-LITHIUM MOVEMENT AND DECOLONIZATION IN EUROPE

    April, 19 2025

PhD In One Night in conversation with dr. Aleksandar Matković
    May 4 2025, 2-6 pm
Orangeries de Bierbais, Rue de Bierbais 2, 1435 Mont-Saint-Guibert

Orangeries de Bierbais and PhD In One Night hosting dr Aleksandar Matković

We kindly invite you to attend an event on lithium struggles and the student struggles in Serbia at the Orangeries de Bierbais (Rue de Bierbais 2, 1435 Mont-Saint-Guibert).

Due to recent events taking place in Serbia, we have decided to organize a discussion regarding the student question in Serbia, as well as the anti-lithium struggle. Both of these questions will shape the future of the Balkans. And yet, due to little to no attention in the English-speaking media, there is little information circulating about this. To correct this absence of media attention, we call upon the Belgian and international media, scientists, researchers and activist to join us for this one-day event so that we can help spread the word regarding what is probably today the most important event taking place in Europe: a country run by direct-democratic student bodies, leading an anti-colonial struggle. We consider this especially important in the Belgian context.

The event is organized by "PhD in one night" in conversation with dr Aleksandar Matković, a researcher from Serbia and activist in residency at the Orangeries de Bierbais. Here is a link to the Verso book post sent by PhD In One Night regarding student protest in Serbia.

    Schedule for May 4th:

14h Gathering at the Orangeries de Bierbais (Rue de Bierbais 2, 1435 Mont-Saint-Guibert). Bar and small restaurant available.
15-16h PhD in one night in conversation with Aleksandar Matković regarding the student direct democracy struggle
16-17h Lecture by dr Aleksandar Matković (Institute of Economic Sceinces/Transnational Institute in Amsterdam) on anti-lithium struggles and the global economics of colonialism.
17-18h Discussion and Q&A with the audience.

We look forward to your attendance. Your reservation is welcomed on the orangeriesdebierbais@gmail.com
